Our experts comment on conclusion of the transfer window
The January transfer window in the Premier League saw a spending uplift from the mere €90m last year to over €400m this year. Manchester City were the main reason for that, with 50% of the overall spending coming from the Premier League champions. Elsewhere in Europe, teams were spending to replace players they'd lost; Omar Marmoush's move to City meant Frankfurt could splash out on Elye Wahi from Marseille, who in turn brought in Amine Gouiri from Stade Rennais. Elswhere, the biggest deal featured, predictably, PSG, who splashed €70m on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and then sold Xavi Simons to RB Leipzig for €50m, a club record for the Germans.
Perhaps the most surprising signing of all was Jhon Duran's huge €77m transfer to Al-Nassr from Aston Villa, a deal that shocked the market, and gave the Saudis perhaps their first player 'in their prime' for the domestic league. Al-Ahli were also able to pick up Porto midfielder Galeno for €50m too, another player that Premier League clubs had their eyes on.

FootballTransfers Future Star ⭐️
Tim Drexler is a teenage center-back currently playing for TSG Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga. He fits the mold of a ball playing defender, with strong positioning and reliable pass accuracy. Notably, Drexler boasts a higher-than-average goal efficiency for a center-back, making him a threat on set pieces.
However, his aerial duel success rate and overall physical dominance remain areas for improvement. Defensively, his ball recovery and retention numbers need refining, but his disciplined approach minimizes reckless fouls.
Drexler’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) has been on rapid rise and currently sits at €5.8 million. With further development, the German has the potential to develop into a reliable, top class defender within the Bundesliga.
